The Optical Factory and Hearing Clinic & Kilmarnock Hearing Care offer low cost ear wax removal.
Ear Wax Removal £45 for one ear or £55 for both.
There is a standard £20 consultation fee for all ear wax removal appointments if no ear wax is present. We will then investigate to see if you have a hearing loss and if you are in need of an enhanced hearing test and hearing aids.
The above do not apply to our current hearing aid clients.
*99.9% of ear wax can be removed the same day. If you have used a cotton bud you may have impacted the wax and it may be too hard to remove with one appointment. We would advise a few days oil before a visit if this is the case. If you require a second appointment because of cotton bud use this will be charged @ £20.

Microsuction is the safest and quickest method of earwax removal.
Microsuction is a a wax-removal technique using a set of binocular loupes and a very fine sterile suction device which will use low pressure suction to remove the wax.
This method is preferred by medical staff and patients alike for guaranteed effective removal of wax. Unlike traditional forms of wax removal, using ear wax softening drops for a week is not always necessary and in most cases the wax can be removed safely within minutes by a trained professional.
What is involved with microsuction?
In the past your GP may have used a single syringe to flush out the wax. This is potentially harmful to the ear canal if too much pressure is used. Microsuction allows the safe removal of earwax by inserting a small probe into the ear that vacuums out the wax.
Ear wax is a highly efficient and natural defence by the body which is produced to make sure that the ear canals are a germ free environment.
Wax must be managed properly for ears and hearing devices to work together efficiently, but sometimes it can become excessive or impacted within the ear canal and will need to be removed.
What is ear wax?
Everyone produces ear wax, it is a perfectly normal way that the body protects itself. The yellow substance is secreted into the ear canal to help protect it, prevent infections and stop forcing bodies from getting in.
Do I produce more ear wax if I wear a Hearing Aid?
No, but wearing a hearing aid helps to prevent the wax from migrating from the ear and causing it to build up more quickly. We would recommend wearers get their ear’s checked regularly to remove any build-up of wax and minimise complications.
Will I hear better after it is removed?
Too much ear wax in your ear canal can prevent sound from reaching your ear drum, which will lead to a drop in your ability to hear. Removing the wax MAY help you to hear better.
Does it hurt?
No it doesn’t hurt at all. The Optical Factory and Hearing Clinic use the latest medical devices and follow industry clinical procedures to ensure the highest standards of comfort and safety.
How long does it take?
Wax removal usually takes between 15 – 30 minutes, depending on how much or how old the wax is.
