SEAN WALLS - DIRECTOR & HAD
Over 30 years experience
I’m Sean. I have been involved in the healthcare profession for over 30 years. I started in the optical profession as a lab technician at the age of 15. By the age of 23 I opened my own spectacle lens manufacturing business.
In 2011 my business partner and I opened The Optical Factory, which has won multiple awards for our commitment to offer the absolute best in customer care. In 2016 we decided to offer hearing care to our patients and it was at this moment I realised where my true passion lies.
The positive effect we had in changing people’s lives made me realise I wanted to become an audiologist and in 2017 I was successful in my application for the audiology course at Queen Margaret University.
My other passions are helping Children in developing countries and since 2010 I have been involved in testing and delivering eye care along with my wife Anne through my charity Sight Aid International.
On our next trip to Kenya we plan on now offering hearing care to the most vulnerable and supplying hearing aids where necessary. This work lead me to being one of the London 2012 Olympic Torch Bearers for the London Olympic games.
As if life is not busy enough I am also a dad to 3 boys, Benjamin, Jackson and baby Ezra, who keep me busy the most.
HELPING THOSE IN NEED
We help so the children may hear and see
The Optical Factory and Kilmarnock Hearing Centre provides hearing aids and prescription glasses to the children in Kenya.
Since 2009 Sean has been working in Kenya, helping conduct eye screening camps under the OSCR charity Sight Aid International and delivering prescription spectacles and eye medicine to school children and adults in various parts of Kenya.
In the coming months The Optical Factory East Kilbride will commit to sponsoring eye tests for children in Kenya to match each eye test that is conducted in East Kilbride. More details will follow on this as the project develops.
January 2022 saw Sean undertake his first hearing screening project which was conducted at a Primary School for hearing Impaired children in Machakos County, Kenya in conjunction with Kenya Society for the Deaf.
Sean hopes these hearing screening projects will be bi-annual and bring much needed hearing care to school children in Kenya.
